CONCEPT DEMO — Halloway Educational Technologies is not a real company. It was invented to demonstrate a self-maintaining catalog. Every product price here is simulated, no order is real, and no business is being represented.

Nightly derivation

Four things change every night.
Each one costs or earns something.

The catalog is not stored, it is derived — re-checked against the distributor feed and rebuilt from what comes back. The interesting output is not the catalog, it's the difference between last night's and tonight's. Every row below is a commitment that quietly changed while nobody was in the building.

1  Prices moved

34 products · 17 by more than 10%

17 moved up

Total increase $1,640.73 across those lines. Any quote already in a district's hands for one of these is now priced below what the product costs to buy today.

17 moved down

Total decrease $950.52. Until the catalog caught up, these were listed above what the source now charges — which is the quiet way a bid gets lost to a competitor who repriced first.

What it means: A price change is not a catalog event, it is a quote-validity event. On a 30-day quote, every one of these 34 lines is a document already issued that no longer matches the source. The moves that go up are margin exposure if the quote is honored; the moves that go down are lost bids nobody ever hears about.

9 products
What it means: Yesterday these answered “special order, five to ten business days.” Today they ship. In K-12 that distinction decides August installs — the difference between a district buying from you and buying from whoever could promise a date. Nothing about the product changed; only the answer your site gives.

3  Retired

6 products
What it means: The expensive failure is not a missing product, it is a sellable one that cannot be sourced. A discontinued line left listed will eventually be quoted, ordered, and chased — a purchase order that has to be unwound, an apology to a purchasing officer, and a relationship spent on a mistake nobody made on purpose. Retirement here is derived, so it happens whether or not anyone was told.

4  Newly available

220 since the baseline import
What it means: A distributor adds products constantly, and a catalog only carries what someone thought to add. Derivation inverts that: anything the source starts carrying becomes sellable the same night, with its description, specs and photography already attached. Revenue that would otherwise wait on somebody hearing about it.

Read this honestly. The first entries below came from adding a second distributor to the comparison rather than from overnight drift. Everything since 2026-08-12 is unattended: the job runs at 03:40, nobody is watching, and the changes are real. Measured over three such nights, 0.26% of the catalog changes every night — which at Halloway's real 74,500 products works out to roughly 193 products a night, or about 71,000 a year.
